Over the next few months I will share with you colleges that you may not know about, but should. Today, a premium is placed on “brand name” colleges. Families may be more concerned with the college’s reputation rather than the fit for their child. College is an experience, not just a piece of paper. Now that many elite colleges are hyper selective, we need to be open minded to finding colleges that provide the right experiences for our kids at the right price for the family. My book and business help students earn admission to their dream college. One of the most important parts of our work is discussing career prospects, long-term goals, and how the college under consideration fits with a student’s goals. This conversation should be more than rehashing size and location. Harvard or Stanford is not for everyone, and that is ok. A student interested in engineering or nursing can accomplish their goals at other schools. Creative thinking and resourcefulness are necessary life skills. It is time to apply them to the college admissions process. Parents, we need to encourage our children to follow their passions and help them find the environment that makes sense for them and financially for the family. Stay tuned for colleges that may be an incredible fit for your child.
